Love from the Podium – 3 Quick Tips

Love from the Podium - 3 Quick Tips

Poor communication is one of the top 5 reasons a relationship ends.

It can lead to resentment, frustration, and misaligned expectations. It isn’t just your partner you want to work on communication with this valentine’s season. Poor communication can be an issue for all your relationships in life – including work. At 2Connect, we often see performance issues that directly tie back to ineffective communication, whether communicating with peers, team members or the Board of Directors.

2Connect isn’t getting into the match making business but we do want to spread the love. Try these 3 simple ways to engage your audience (or date) through meaningful interaction and discussion.

1. Ask open-ended questions.

Partnership isn’t a one-way street, so show the audience they matter with thoughtfully posed questions. Specifically, ask questions that begin with “what,” “how,” “why” and “in what ways” to create discussion.

2. Pause.

The Supremes were right – you can’t hurry love. Participants need time to process your questions, think about their answers and decide if they should speak up in front of their peers.

3. Acknowledge responses.

We humans crave recognition and validation. Reinforce participation by acknowledging it.  “Thank you.”  “That is an interesting point.” or “Tell me more about that.” Showing your engagement in this way creates a safe and comfortable environment for your audience.

Perhaps now more than any time in recent history, this world of ours needs love. Start a positive ripple effect by showing your next audience love with these 3 easy tips. If you are interested in upping your communication game, check out this success story from a recent coaching client.
